They are all gone out of the way. There is none good; no not one. Their throat
is an opened sepulcher [grave] with their tongue they have used deceit, the
poison of asps is under their lips. Whose mouths are full of cursing and
bitterness: their feet are swift to shed blood. The way of peace they have not
known.'
This grim picture is the true assessment of our spiritual state. It is God's
vital imaging of our hearts. Knowing this leave us completely miserable until we
find the cure for sin. The remedy for sin is found in a person 'the only person
who ever lived good enough to bring healing to the human heart' the Lord Jesus
Christ. He is 'the light of the world' who alone can bring light and salvation
into the darkness of our hearts. He is a man, but not only a man, he is God come
in the flesh. 'And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us (and we beheld
his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and
truth.'
He was virgin born. 'The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a
son, and they will call him Immanuelwhich means, 'God with us' Matthew 1:23. At the age of thirty he began
his
public ministry which continued for three and a half years during which he did
works of power and love which proved to the world that
a great light was shining upon them. At the end of this time he was crucified and slain
by wicked hands. He went to the cross as a willing victim as
a lamb to the slaughter, 'He was oppressed and he was afflicted, yet he opened
not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before
her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.' He was slain and laid in a
grave, 'And he made his grave with the wicked, and the rich in his death;
because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth' Isaiah
53:7,9.
Three
days later he arose from the grave. Women who came to anoint his dead body on the
third day found instead an angel in the tomb who said to them, 'Be not
affrighted ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen: he is
not here: behold the place where they laid him' Mark 16:6. After his resurrection he was
seen of many and even ate a meal with his disciples before he ascended up to
heaven to sit at God's right hand. In heaven 'God has highly exalted him and
given him a name above every name that at the name of Jesus every knee shall
bow' Philippians 2:9-10.
This man 'the Lord Jesus Christ'
is the one and only cure for the human heart. The blood he shed on Calvary's
cross can wash away every stain of sin, 'The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin'
1 John 1:7. And only coming by faith to this living person can
bring peace and rest into our hearts. Won't you come to
him who did so much to win your confidence and love and trust him for eternal
life?
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I
will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
