Jesus Christ in the Qur'an

People living in Muslim countries, have asked the following questions.

1.What does the Muslim's Holy Book, the Qur'an, say about Jesus Christ ?

2.What does the Qur'an say about the birth of Jesus ?

3.What does the Qur'an say about the miracles of Jesus ?

4.What else does the Qur'an say about Jesus ?

Jesus was sinless

The Bible Says,

He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NAS)

The Bible tell us in the above passage and many other passages that Jesus Christ is sinless. He committed no sin, and so he never had to ask for forgiveness of sins. The Bible tells us that 'All have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God' (Romans 3:23). All that is except Jesus Christ who is sinless.

The Qur'an confirms that Jesus is sinless?

He said: I am only a messenger of thy Lord, that I may bestow on thee a faultless son. Sura Maryam 19:19 (Pickthal)

The Qur'an tells us that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was given a sinless Son. A son who is faultless and perfect in the eyes of God, whose nature is sinless and who did no act of sin. God says He did this so that Jesus, the son of Mary, would be an example to all the nations of the world.

Jesus was born of a virgin

The Bible says,

And the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. "And behold, you will conceive in your womb, and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. "He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever; and His kingdom will have no end." And Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I am a virgin?" And the angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy offspring shall be called the Son of God. Luke 1:30-35 (NAS)

The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ had no earthly Father, as a normal baby would; but, rather, he was born without any human involvement, by the power of God, the Holy Spirit. No other person has ever been born without the seed of man. That is why Genesis refers to "the seed of women" (Genesis 3:15).

The Qur'an confirms that Jesus was born of virgin...

And she who was chaste, therefore We breathed into her (something) of Our Spirit and made her and her son a token for (all) peoples. Sura Am-biya' 21:91(Pickthal)

The Qur'an confirms that Jesus Christ had no earthly or physical father. It also tells us that God breathed His "Holy Sprit" in Jesus.  "She who was chaste" means she who was a pure virgin, meaning Jesus was born of a Virgin.

And Mary, daughter of 'Imran, whose body was chaste, therefore We breathed therein something of Our Spirit. And she put faith in the words of her Lord and His scriptures, and was of the obedient.  Sura Tahrim 66:12(Pickthal)

The Qur'an again confirms that Jesus Christ had no earthly or physical father. It again tells us that God breathed His " Holy Sprit" in Jesus. Please note that this is a unique Birth for Jesus alone, no other person or prophet or holy man ever or will ever be born this way.

Everyone is a sinner except Jesus Christ

The Bible says that everyone is a sinner......

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 3: 23

The Bible tells us that every one of us has sinned and none of us meets God's standard of Perfection.

The Qur'an confirms that all men are sinners.

Those who avoid enormities of sin and abominations,...Therefore ascribe not purity unto yourselves. Sura Najm 53: 32 (Pickthal)

The Qur'an confirms that all men are sinners and therefore impure in the eyes of the Holy and Perfect God. It tells us not to ascribe or connect purity with ourselves (human beings) because we are neither pure nor sinless. Only God is pure and holy.

Jesus died for our sins

The Bible says,

But he [Christ] was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53: 5 (NIV)

The Bible tells us Christ was put to death for our mistakes and for our sins. By This sacrifice of pure and sinless blood, we are made righteous before a Holy and Just God.

And when they had crucified Him, they divided up His garments among themselves, casting lots; Matthew 27:35 (NAS)

Jesus was put to death

Again the Bible confirms,

There they crucified Him, and with Him two other men, one on either side, and Jesus in between. John 19:18

Again here and in numerous other passages, the Bible confirms that Jesus was put to death.

The Qur'an confirms that Jesus was killed by God.

(And remember) when Allah said: O Jesus! Lo! I am gathering thee and causing thee to ascend unto Me,... Sura ali-Imran 3:55 (Pickthal)

The Arabic word used here is matu-waffiikat which means "cause you to die." So, the Qur'an confirms that God put Christ to death and then raised him bodily to himself. Jesus' body was not buried to decay and become dust, instead was raised straight into God's presence in heaven.

I spake unto them...and when thou tookest me. Sura Al-Maeda 5:117 (Pickthal)

The Arabic word used here is tawaffay-tanii which means " kill some one or cause someone die." So here again, we see that Qur'an confirms that God put Jesus Christ to death and then took him up (with his body) to heaven. This Faultless (sinless) One was put to death. He did not go any where else like other prophets did, to "Barzakh," which is a temporary place, until the day of resurrection. No! Jesus went straight into God's presence in Heaven with His glorified body.

Jesus Followers

The Bible says,

And hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. Romans 5:5
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. I John 4:7
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love. Galatians 5:6
So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; {and} that you, being rooted and grounded in love, Ephesians 3:17
And may the Lord cause you to increase and abound in love for one another, and for all men, just as we also {do} for you; 1Thessalonians 3:12
Let love of the brethren continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it. Hebrews 13:1-2 (NAS)

All these passages, and many more, show us that Christians have love overflowing from within them. This overflowing Love has been poured into Christians by God. As we shall see, the Qur'an says the same thing, namely, that God put love and mercy in the hearts of Christians.

The Qur'an confirms what the Bible says about Jesus Followers,

...and We [God] caused Jesus, son of Mary, to follow, and gave him the Gospel, and placed compassion [love] and mercy in the hearts of those who followed him... Sura Al-Hadid 57:27 (Pickthal )

God confirms that He put Love in the hearts of the followers of Jesus Christ. Just as God tells us in the Qur'an, a Muslim can experience this love in every Christian. Why? Because God Himself has put that love into every Christian's heart.

The Bible is guarded by God

The Qur'an says,

The Bible which includes the Torah (Tauraat sharif) , Psalms (Zaboor Sharif) and Gospel (Injeel Sharif), were sent to mankind by God.

God commands all Muslims to believe in the Bible and the prophets that He sent before the Qur'an, or else a Muslim is not a Muslim and is directly disobeying God.

Please verified this in the following Suras. Sura 2:97, 2:136 ,21:48. 21:51,40:25,40:34, 40:37,40:53,40:13,40:46,44:18, 44:30,45:16, 46:12,46:30,86:18, 86:19 and more.

The Bible tells us that God himself is a Guardian over over the Holy Scripture.

"For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass away from the Law, until all is accomplished. Matthew 5:18 (NAS)

Here and in other passages, God tells us that nothing in the Bible will change or pass away. No! not even the smallest dot or punctuation mark. No human being can change God's word if God is protecting it. There is no better protector than God.

The Qur'an confirms that God is a Guardian over the Bible....

And unto thee have We revealed the Scripture with the truth, confirming whatever Scripture was before it, and a watcher [guardian] over it.... Sura Maeda 5:48
Falsehood [changes] cannot come at it from before it or from behind it. (It is) a revelation from the Wise, the Owner of Praise [God]. Sura Fussilat 41:42
Lo! We, even We, reveal the Reminder, and lo! We verily are its Guardian. Sura Al-Hijr 15: 9 (Pickthal )

Here and in other passages, God tells us that He alone, not man, is the guardian of all Holy Scripture. Since God is the Guardian, no one can alter or change any word of the Bible, which is the Holy Scripture that He gave to Moses and all other prophets.

Jesus did Miracles

The Bible says,

When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!" The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, "Take off the grave clothes and let him go." John 11:43-44 (NIV)

Here Jesus Christ shows us that He can raise a dead man who has been buried for four days. Who but God can raise dead?

The Holy Qur'an confirms Jesus miracles.

And will make him a messenger unto the Children of Israel, (saying): Lo! I come unto you with a sign from your Lord. ... I heal him who was born blind, and the leper, and I raise the dead, by Allah's leave. Sura Al-e-Imran 3:49 (Pickthal)

The Muslim's Holy Qur'an confirm that Jesus Christ has the power to raise the dead, again a power only reserved to God Almighty. No man can raise the dead, only God can do this.

 Jesus gave Life

The Bible says,

Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me shall live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?" John 11:25-26 (NAS)

In this scripture, Jesus told us that He alone gives resurrection Life. He has power over death and resurrection. These feats are reserved for God alone. Here Jesus said He is the great "I am," the God of Moses.

Also, the Muslim's Holy Qur'an claims that Jesus gave life,

And will make him a messenger unto the Children of Israel, (saying): Lo! I come unto you with a sign from your Lord. Lo! I fashion for you out of clay the likeness of a bird, and I breathe into it and it is a bird, by Allah's leave. Sura Al-e-Imran 3:49 (Pickthal)

The Qur'an confirms that Jesus Christ has the power to breath life into a lifeless object. Just as God breathed life into Adam, who was made from mud, so Jesus Christ breathed life into a bird made of mud and came to life. Who can breathe life, but God alone ?

Jesus has Peace

The Bible says,

(For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; and the government will rest on His shoulders; and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. Colossians 3:15
"Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and YOU SHALL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. Matthew 11:29 (NAS)

Here and in many other passages we see that Jesus Christ is Peace. He has peace and He is ready to give it to everyone who asks for it.  The Qur'an mentions this Peace,

Peace on me the day I was born, and the day I die, and the day I shall be raised alive! Sura Maryam 19:33 (Pickhal)

Here the Muslim's Holy Qur'an confirms what the Bible tells us, namely, that Jesus Christ does not ask for peace. He says that he was born with Peace. Therefore, He does not ask us to pray for peace on Him.  No, on the contrary, He says he has peace. As we all know, only God Almighty has Peace.

Jesus knows our thoughts and innermost secrets

The Muslim's Holy Qur'an says,

And will make him a messenger unto the Children of Israel (saying ) Lo ! (Jesus )come unto you with a sign from your Lord. ... And I announce unto you what ye eat and what ye store up in your houses. Lo! herein verily is a portent for you, if ye are to be believers. Sura Al-e-Imran 3:49 (Pickthal)  Also, please see Sura 5:110.

The Muslim's Holy Prophet of Islam said that Jesus would come and Judge the people of Medina, Who had hidden food in their houses and did not share it with the poor. The Muslim's Prophet added that Jesus, when He returned would know everything these people of Medina did wrong and what was in their hearts. Who but God knows these Things?

Jesus will Judge us

The Bible says,

'Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with Me. Revelation 3:20
Do not complain, brethren, against one another, that you yourselves may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing right at the door. James 5:9
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1
For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 (NAS)

Here and in numerous other passages in the Holy Bible, we are told that Jesus, the Word, is our Judge. It also tells us that every knee will bow to Jesus Christ and admit that He is the Lord.

The Qur'an confirms that Jesus will Judge us. Sura Al-e-Imran 3:49 (Pickthal) above.

Who, but God, can Judge us? Certainly no human being has this power.  Only Jesus Christ has this authority and power as confirmed to us by the Holy Scripture and Muhammad, the Muslim's Prophet of Islam.
