Background: Abd al-Masih ibn
Ishaq al-Kindi wrote an apology of the
Christian faith to al-Hashimi while serving
in the court of the Caliph Al-Mamun in
approximately the year A.H. 215 (A.D. 830).
This edition of the text was originally
prepared by Sir William Muir and first
published in 1887. Muir gives the historical
setting of the dialogue between al-Kindi and
al-Hashimi and includes extensive quotations
from this ancient work.

corresponds to the original page breaks in
